Cham small hydropower plant

Description

Electricity from hydropower

The Untermühle small hydropower plant on the lower Lorze River was commissioned in 1903 and for a long time generated electricity for the paper mill in Cham. During the guided tour, you will experience both the historic plant and the modern Kaplan bulb turbine.

The power plant became the property of Wasserwerke Zug (WWZ) in 2002 and was extensively renovated in 2010. As a result, electricity production was nearly doubled. 12 cubic meters per second flow through the new Kaplan bulb turbine, which has a maximum plant capacity of 570 kW.
