Residence Palace (outside visit) & Court Garden (1,5h)

Würzburg Highlights

Description

The Würzburg Court Garden and the prince-bishop's Residence Palace have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 1981. On this guided tour through one of the most beautiful gardens in southern Germany and along the Palace, you will learn a lot of interesting facts about the building history of one of the most important baroque palaces in Europe and the courtly lifestyle.

The prince bishops are presented as builders, Balthasar Neumann as the architect and last but not least Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, who created famours frescoes. Then it goes to the three completely different parts of the Court Garden.

  • The Italian part, which includes the city fortifications with terraces in the design, inspires with arcades and old varieties of roses.
  • In the strictly symmetrical French garden, the fountain system with groups of figures from mythology is impressive and the colorful flower beds are planted according to the original plans.
  • The third part of the court garden follows the tradition of English landscape gardens.

During the tour, the Residence Palace with its imposing facade always remains in view.
