Walking Tour of the Fortress Marienberg (1,5 h)

Würzburg Highlights

Description

The Fortress Marienberg is visible from seemingly everywhere and is the landmark of the city of Würzburg that can be seen from afar and also represents its more than 1000 years history. From the Middle Ages to the Baroque period it was the seat of the Würzburg prince bishops. The tour leads past the Echtertor, which was the downfall of the people of Würzburg during the Thirty Years' War. From the now following court of the Fortress you can see the neighboring Käppele and find a horse pond. Finally you enter the moat, which offers a magnificent view of the city. The area is currently undergoing one of the most complex redesigns by the palace and garden administration in Bavaria (Bayerische Schlösser- und Gartenverwaltung).

Immerse yourself in the eventful history from the Celts to the present day and take a look into the future of the Marienberg Fortress.

Please note: During the tour several steps must be overcome.
