Description
The "Meng zu Niffenau" as the Menkenbauer was called at that time, has existed since 1691, initially only with a small farm. In 1753 the elector appointed the "Mengg" as the innkeeper of Ruhpolding. From this time on, he was a stopover for the "Hölzer" who brought wood for salt barrels with horses over the Jochberg to Reichenhall to the ducal salt brewhouse. The original air paintings on the listed farmhouse also date from this time. In 1837 the farm was acquired by Josef Oberhauser and has been run by the family since then, now in the sixth generation. Already in 1937 guests were accommodated for the first time, at that time by Maria and Josef Maier, who was the former mayor of Ruhpolding for twenty years. In 1950, the sawmill was built and served as a source of income in addition to agriculture and small rentals. In 1952 Touropa sent the first special trains to Ruhpolding and tourism was born. In the beginning, only simple rooms were rented out in the farmhouse and Haus Anneliese, until the guesthouse was built in 1970.
