How do porcelains take shape and how many parts may a single figure be made up of?The Porcelain MuseumThe permanent exhibition on show in the Museum run by the Meissen Porcelain Foundation comprises a never-before-seen collection of porcelains ranging from monumental sculptures to the opulent Swan Service from Augustus the Strong´s days. The Museum adopts a multivisual approach to acquaint visitors with the complex story of how Meissen porcelain came to be. Text inserts and film sequences allow the Meissen Manufactory´s genesis more than 300 years ago to be interactively experienced – visitors learn much of interest about Johann Friedrich Böttger, famous alchemist and inventor of Meissen porcelain, and those who assisted him.By the way: A free WiFi link in the House of Meissen enables children to go on a tablet-based rally through the Museum. Our youngest guests, meanwhile, can join a MEISSEN safari with our Rhino and learn to view the figures on display from a completely different angle.Culinary delights on Meissen porcelainThe café & restaurant on the ground floor of our premises are noted for their modern regional cuisine. The menu changes from month to month and, alongside dishes with a Mediterranean leaning, also includes classics of Saxon cuisine plus specialities from the immediate vicinity. Distinctive wines from nearby vineyards and beers brewed locally can be ordered to accompany meals. The café invites you to enjoy coffee or afternoon tea with a selection of sweetmeats, cakes and gateaux, one of which - Meissen gateau with the crossed swords – is a creation of our own.
