Guided tour through the special exhibition "A Step Ahead / Einen Schritt voraus": To mark the 125th anniversary of the first exhibition by the Darmstadt Artists’ Colony at Mathildenhöhe, the Institut Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt is exploring, through the exhibition “A Step Ahead / Einen Schritt voraus”, how design, architecture and art shape social developments: then as now. 

Four visionary building exhibitions between 1901 and 1914 gave Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt its current appearance and led to its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The historic artists’ colony always viewed design as a holistic concept for improving everyday life. This progressive approach continues to have an impact today and forms the starting point for the exhibition.

The maximum group size is 25 people. An individual meeting point is possible by arrangement.

Admission is EUR 8 per person. This price is only valid for groups (10 or more people). For smaller groups (up to 9 persons) the regular admission price of 10,-EUR per person applies. Children and young people (up to the age of 18) and school classes are admitted free of charge. Without prior booking, admission must be paid directly on site!

The exhibition building is closed on the following public holidays: Christmas Eve, 24.12.2026 Christmas Day, 25.12.2026 New Year's Eve, 31.12.2026 New Year's Day, 01.01.2027
