Mathilda's Journey - Student Outreach Program

Darmstadt is...Culture

Description

Workshop for elementary schools, target audience: grades 1–4

The “Mathilda’s Journey” project offers students in grades 1 through 4 the opportunity to acquire key skills related to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt through interactive and creative activities. In two age-appropriate sessions, children are introduced to the concept of World Heritage to foster awareness and a sense of responsibility for Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt, a site worthy of protection.

The swan Mathilda accompanies the children on their journey of discovery through Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt. The shared journey begins in the classroom with Mathilda’s suitcase. Using vivid objects, the significance of Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt for the development of architecture and design is brought to life. This playful exploration sparks the children’s curiosity about the second stage of the educational project. During a visit to Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt and the Museum Artits' Colony, what they have seen and learned is deepened on site through all the senses.

Participation in “Mathilda’s Journey” is free of charge for school classes.

Meeting point for the 2nd session: In front of the Wedding Tower
Duration: 90 minutes
