Mathildenhöhe and art nouveau at Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt
Darmstadt is...Culture
Description
Tour of Mathildenhöhe with explanations of the history of the artists' colony founded in 1899. You will get impressions of the entire ensemble: studio house, exhibition building and artists' houses. This is followed by a tour of the Art Nouveau collection of the HLMD, which already has a long tradition. More than 400 glasses and ceramics, furniture, textiles, small bronzes, metal and silversmith works of almost all renowned artists of the time around 1900 document the diverse creativity of this European movement.
In addition to works from Belgium, England, France, the Netherlands and many more, the holdings also include pieces by members of the Darmstadt Artists' Colony and the Wiener Werkstätte.
