Darmstadt's last Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig was born over 150 years ago. Darmstadt and Hesse owe him a lot: He founded the artists' colony on the Mathildenhöhe, had the state museum built, gave the Technical University the right to award doctorates and encouraged the Opel brothers to build cars. A tour from the birthplace to Mathildenhöhe.
