Hordel and Hannover with "Köttelbecke" and "Kappskolonie"
Description
Deep in Bochum's west end, the sun is no longer covered in dust, but shines brightly on the old mines in the area called Hordel, a park-like residential area with the largest tributary to the River Emscher. The tour starts at the Hannover pit, which was the last pit in Bochum to be shut down in 1973 and which is an industrial museum today. Finally it passes the Hüller creek, which feeds the River Emscher and past the well-travelled mine railway track to the old mining settlement of Dahlhauser Heide. This was built in a park-like style by the Krupp company at the beginning of the 20th century and is affectionately referred to as the "Kappskolonie" because of the way in which the fruit and vegetable gardens are laid out. Here you will also find out what the story about the six sisters and six brothers is all about!
Please bring suitable clothing for the weather and sturdy footwear.
This tour is available in German only. Approx. 2 hours, 25 persons max.
