Description
At the foot of the Senftenberg castle ruins, nestled in the terraced vineyards of the Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German), stands the historic Lesehof, which today functions as the Nigl winery with restaurant, wine hotel and spa.
The former Lesehof, first documented in the 12th century, was firmly established as a vineyard in the 14th century and served as a farm for Senftenberg Castle, among other things. In 1994, the Nigl family took over the farm and carefully converted it to its current use as a winery, restaurant and hotel. In 2023, a modern hotel extension was added, which sensitively adapts to the landscape and terraced location.
Viticulture focuses on classic grape varieties such as Grüne Veltliner and Riesling, supplemented by Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat and red varieties such as Blauer Zweigelt, Merlot and Pinot Noir. The focus is on sustainability, soil and site awareness - the wines should clearly express the characteristics of their origin.
Cuisine & Restaurant
Regional roots meet creative cuisine at Restaurant Nigl. Both popular classics and seasonal specialties are served in the cosy dining room or in the idyllic guest garden with a view of the wine terraces and the Senftenberg ruins. The menu ranges from starters such as beef tartare, fine soups and homemade ravioli to veal liver, duck, regional meat specialties and creative desserts. The kitchen's guiding principle is "classic with a dose of the exotic".
A special experience is the descent into the rarities cellar from the 12th century, where mature vintages are available - guests can enjoy selected bottles directly in the restaurant or guest garden or take them home with them.
Hotel & Wellness
The hotel section is discreetly connected underground to the main building and comprises 27 rooms in various categories. The spacious comfort rooms and generous suites ensure relaxation and comfort. Each room has its own character and charming features. Some offer a view of the Senftenberg ruins, others have a panoramic window, an open, heated fireplace or a balcony with a sunset view.
The extensive wellness area includes an infinity pool, steam bath, Finnish sauna, bio sauna and massage area. The pool offers a magnificent panoramic view over the Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German).
Ambience & setting
The farm is surrounded by historic walls, vineyards and gentle slopes - a quiet retreat with a strong identity. The rooms are suitable for dignified dinners, family or company celebrations for up to 40 people. On fine days, the peaceful guest garden invites you to linger and enjoy the exceptional view.
Tastings at the winery allow guests to immerse themselves in the depths of Nigl's wine world - more mature vintages are also available in the vinotheque. The in-house wine list boasts a remarkable depth of vintages.
