Guided walk to the Fortress Marienberg & Tour of the Fortress (2h)
Würzburg Highlights
Description
From the Old Main Bridge, you can enjoy a magnificent view of Marienberg Fortress and the Käppele pilgrimage church. The walk leads past the bastion walls - either through the Schlossberg with the Innere Leiste vineyard or along the Tellsteige - up to the fortress. The tour continues past the Echtertor Gate, which proved fatal to the Würzburg population during the Thirty Years' War. From the Pferdeschwemme (horse pond), the route continues to the castle moat, which offers a magnificent view of the city. The area is currently undergoing one of the most extensive redesigns by the Palaces and Gardens Administration in Bavaria (Bayerische Schlösser- und Gartenverwaltung). Immerse yourself in the eventful history from the Celts to the present day and take a glimpse into the future of Marienberg Fortress.
