S01 - The Childhood Castles of Elisabeth

Excursions in the outlying Region

Description

Take an excursion to the origins of the Wittelsbacher dynasty, which ruled Bavaria for more than 700 years. The original Wittelsbach fortress (destroyed in 1209) was located in Oberwittelsbach. The moated castle in Unterwittelsbach was home to the young "Sisi", who spent her childhood days there with her father Max, the Duke of Bavaria. Later, the little Wittelsbach girl charmed the world as the Empress of Austria. The tour begins in Augsburg where Sisi's brother lived and was married to an actress. The illegitimate daughter, Marie Louise, was later banned from the court because she was involved in the tragic death of Empress Elisabeth's only son. Both places are stations alog the "Sisi's Road".
