Guided Bike Tour through the Smelting Works

The Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park: a must-see for friends of imposing industrial buildings, cyclists and amateur photographers and a sight that should not be missing from any list of sights. 20 years ago, the site of a disused ironworks that had been cleared for demolition was transformed into an almost unique cultural landscape. During this guided tour, the area is explored and explained in detail by bike: the plants and buildings belonging to the ironworks, such as blast furnaces, gasometers, sewage treatment plants, ore and coke bunkers, the unique landscape architecture, the extensive outdoor areas with coking plant and the associated workers' housing estate. You will also encounter unusual things on the guided tour: divers and alpinists or a genuine farm with pigs and sheep. After the bike tour you can end the day in the park. The rental bikes are at your disposal until 6 p.m. on this day.

Der Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord wurde im Rahmen der internationalen Bauausstellung (IBA) (1989-1999) aus dem Hüttenbetrieb Meiderich entwickelt. Die Flächen, Gebäude und Infrastruktur wurden erhalten und in großen Teilen saniert. Mit seinen rund 200 ha Fläche ist er heute ein ganzjährig und rund um die Uhr zugängliches Naherholungsgebiet mit Anbindung an den Rhein.
